Van Nuys High did it without the drama this time.

The Wolves won their second consecutive City Section girls' volleyball championship Friday night with a 15-12, 15-8, 15-9 victory over Taft of Woodland Hills at Occidental College History

, and forgive the Wolves if it felt somewhat easy.

Last season, the Wolves were a couple of well-placed serves away from being swept by Palisades Palisades, cliffs along the west bank of the Hudson River, NE N.J. and SE N.Y., extending from N of Jersey City, N.J., to the vicinity of Piermont, N.Y., with a general altitude of from 350 ft to 550 ft (107–168 m).  but rallied for a dramatic five-game victory. After the Wolves won the second game Friday night, coach Dave Bessler was ready.

``Between games I told them, `Don't let up, we were in exactly the same position last year,' '' Bessler said. ``It's such a relief.''

Van Nuys left no doubt, taking a 12-3 lead in the third game and held on as the Toreadors rallied late.

``The way our team was playing at the start, I knew the match was ours,'' said Van Nuys outside hitter Hala Hadawar, who had team highs with eight kills and 10 digs. ``We wanted this so bad.''

As usual, Hadawar led the Wolves, but they held off the talented Toreadors because other players stepped up and didn't give Taft a clear advantage in any area of the game.

Van Nuys looked as though it might be in trouble in the first game, when the Toreadors turned a 3-0 deficit into a 10-6 lead with their own strong serving.

But Tara Teslaa came through with two key blocks as the Wolves rallied for a 12-10 lead, and a block from Wendy Moreno gave the game to the Wolves.

Van Nuys quickly re-established control with a 9-2 lead and never were seriously challenged in either the second or third games.

Truong had 10 digs and six kills, Teslaa had six digs and Hana Hadawar had four kills for Van Nuys, which advances to the state tournament beginning Tuesday.

``From the beginning, we knew it was going to be a tough match, because they are a very good team,'' Hala Hadawar said. ``But we ran the plays well, and we did everything we needed in order to win.''
