CITY BOOST TO IRISH SEA LINKS.


LIVERPOOL is set to play a key role in a new Irish Sea Irish Sea, arm of the Atlantic Ocean, c.40,000 sq mi (103,600 sq km), 130 mi (209 km) long and up to c.140 mi (230 km) wide, lying between Ireland and Great Britain. It is hoped the new group could follow the lead of the 11 countries around the Baltic Sea that already work together on a range of issues.

Liverpool's deputy council leader Flo Clucas believes harnessing wind power and the creation of new shipping lanes to improve trade are just two areas where cooperation could bring economic boosts.

Cllr Clucas revealed the plans in Brussels during the Committee of the Regions Open Days session.
