CITY BASEBALL PLAYOFFS: CHATSWORTH SEEDED FIRST.

Byline: Heather Gripp Staff Writer

Chatsworth will be in its familiar spot atop the City Section when the City baseball playoffs begin Friday. Two of the Chancellors' most-familiar playoff foes, however, won't be in Chatsworth's way of reaching the June 5 final at Dodger Stadium     [ .

Chatsworth, the unanimous No. 1 seed when playoff seedings were determined Monday at Hamilton High, would not have to face a local opponent until the semifinals. Defending City champion Kennedy of Granada Hills received the No. 2 seed, setting up a possible rematch in the final of last year's quarterfinal against Chatsworth and increasing the likelihood of the title going to a team from the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

ECR was not the only hopeful West Valley League team denied a spot in the City bracket. Cleveland (19-11) of Reseda, which tied for fourth place with the Conquistadores, was hoping the league's strength would aid its bid, but the Cavaliers were put in the Invitational bracket as the No. 4 seed.

Sunset 6 League champion Poly (17-5-1), Sylmar and Chatsworth's West Valley League rivals Granada Hills and Birmingham of Van Nuys join Kennedy (21-9) as candidates to meet Chatsworth in the final. Granada Hills (19-9) and Birmingham (20-10) are the only teams to beat the Chancellors this year.

Kennedy upset Chatsworth and won last year's title as the No. 9 seed.
