Byline: Rick Orlov Staff Writer

STUDIO CITY - The four candidates for Los Angeles city attorney The Los Angeles City Attorney is an elected official whose job is to prosecute all of the misdemeanor criminal offenses within the city of Los Angeles, California, United States.  said Friday that they wouldn't stand in the way of a secession election because they understand the frustrations residents have with the level of service delivered by the city.

At the same time, the four - Councilman Mike Feuer, Deputy Mayor Rocky Delgadillo Rockard John "Rocky" Delgadillo (born July 15 1960) is the current City Attorney of Los Angeles, California. Career

,'' D'Agostino said at the forum sponsored by the Valley Industry and Commerce Association. ``I believe Los Angeles has more clout as one city than we would if we break up.

``But I do promise that I would not put up any roadblocks if the people decide they want to have independence.''

The other three offered similar views as they also pledged to make sure the city provides factual information to the Local Agency Formation Commission, which is preparing a study on a possible breakup breakup

, as well as to having a fair election.

Tavelman said the city needs to be more aggressive in dealing with those who want to secede.

``This is a terrible state of affairs,'' Tavelman said. ``There is so much frustration in so many parts of the city who feel they have been given the brushoff brush·off also brush-off

On other issues, Feuer said he would work closely with the Police Department to ensure that a pending federal consent decree A settlement of a lawsuit or criminal case in which a person or company agrees to take specific actions without admitting fault or guilt for the situation that led to the lawsuit.

``There are three things we need in a city attorney - leadership, vision and experience,'' Feuer said, citing his record as director of the Bet Tzedek public interest law firm. ``I would work with the Police Department to manage its risk and ... ensure the reforms are implemented.''

Delgadillo said one of his priorities would be reducing the amount the city pays out in lawsuits.

``Right now, we are facing liabilities of $1 billion,'' Delgadillo said. ``If we can reduce that by one-third, we could completely eliminate the business tax.''
