CITY APPEAL IS DENIED FOR SISTERS BRANDONS MUST SIT HOOPS SEASON FOR CHATSWORTH.

Chatsworth High girls' basketball standouts Kim and Jennifer Brandon have been denied eligibility this season after an appeal to the City Section rules committee was denied.

The Brandon sisters, both 6-foot-2, transferred from Palmdale to Chatsworth after Chatsworth coach Michelle Chevalier and husband, Andre Chevalier, took over legal custody of the girls in August.

The Chevaliers live in the Sylmar school district, but the girls attend Chatsworth, where Michelle works as a teacher and coach. The Chevaliers petitioned for the sisters' eligibility at Chatsworth before the season, but the City Section denied that request and then upheld its decision Thursday.

City Section director Barbara Fiege was not in her office Friday and was unavailable for comment.

The Chevaliers appealed the original decision based on the girls' extenuating ex·ten·u·ate

The Chevaliers gained custody of the sisters with their mother's consent.

However, the City Section is holding firm that Kim and Jennifer can only play varsity sports at Sylmar, where they now reside.

The Brandons were able to enroll at Chatsworth under the City Section's open enrollment system. However, the City Section does not accept enrollment as automatic eligibility for varsity athletics.

``The City Section is missing something here,'' Chatsworth principal Jeff Davis Jeff Davis may refer to:

``These girls were homeless, and the Chevalier family The Chevalier Family is an informal group of Roman Catholic orders founded or inspired by Jules Chevalier.

Davis vows to continue to fight for the girls' eligibility, and plans to appeal the decision to the California Interscholastic Federation The California Interscholastic Federation (abbreviated CIF) is the governing body for high school sports in the state of California. The Brandons both averaged nine points per game for Palmdale last season. Kim, a junior, is the oldest of five siblings, while Jennifer is a sophomore. Both girls are considered college prospects.
