CITY'S STORM BILL HITS $1.3 MILLION.Byline: Daily News SANTA CLARITA - The city estimated its storm-related losses Wednesday at $1.3 million, a tally that included damage to Santa Clarita roads, trails and parks, and the cost of emergency and protective services. Much of that money went toward sheltering residents of the Polynesian Mobile Home Park in Newhall, evacuated after the Newhall Creek filled beyond capacity and flooded homes. A total of four residences were destroyed, 11 had major damage and 25 had minor damage. There were 104 residences in the city that were affected by the storm. Santa Clarita declared a state of emergency Saturday after realizing that local resources were overwhelmed and additional equipment and help needed to be brought in. ``Santa Clarita had no loss of life and that is the most important way to come out of a disaster. In the coming weeks and months, we will work with various agencies to repair public areas that were damaged,'' City Manager Ken Pulskamp said. Several highway and parks outside the city in Los Angeles County jurisdiction sustained severe damage. The county tallied damage at $30 million, much of that to highways in the Santa Clarita Valley, and officials said repairs could take weeks. |
