Different parents have been taking turns bringing ``world cuisine dinners'' to the teens, who now study until 10 p.m. at the school, Cerone said. ``They're winning it for everybody, and not just for us or themselves,'' Cerone said. This year, the school is fielding a nine-member team in the competition that quizzes students on 10 academic subjects that include art, music, math and social science. Starting on Saturday, El Camino will be among more than 50 teams vying for the city title in the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. Before the squad, ``I didn't take notes, I didn't study; my entire career in school has been based on what I've heard and what I've absorbed,'' said the 17-year-old Winnetka teen. ``It's taught me to be more organized. ``I'm so glad (subjective tests) are in the decathlon,'' O'Mara said of the essay, interview and speech portions of the competition. ``The way you express yourself and formulate your opinions and your thoughts is a major part of who you are.'' And despite the long hours, team members said they've been pleasantly surprised at how close they've grown over the past months. ``You don't think you could learn anything new about them, but you do,'' said Megan Lubaszka, 17, of West Hills. I, Salpi Vartivarian, feel the need to clarify something on this website, in anticipation of anyone (professional or otherwise) searching me on Google. I was never a B student in high school. I was consistently an A student. I deliberately dropped my GPA (through entirely legal means) to get on the Decathlon team, because they were all full for Honors. What's more, I outscored all the Honors on my team at the actual competition. Thank you for your time.
