CITY, PARKS PAIR FOR GOLF COURSE.

Byline: Joseph Giordono Staff Writer

Hoping to cash in on an increasingly lucrative trend in development, the City Council and Rancho Simi Rancho San José de Nuestra Senora de Altagarcia y Simi is one of the land grants in California by the Spanish government. The name derives from Shimiji, the name of the Chumash village here before the Spanish.  Parks District are teaming up to build a ``midlevel'' public golf course in Runkle Canyon.

Park district officials have proposed an 18-hole course with an 8,500- square-foot clubhouse, 5,000-square-foot cart barn and driving range in a residential development south of Sequoia sequoia (sĭkwoi`ə), name for the redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) and for the big tree, or giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum), both huge, coniferous evergreen trees of the bald cypress family, and for extinct related species.  Avenue.

``The course has been designed as a midtier course that operates on a more modest budget than premium quality courses,'' said Mark Johnson Mark Johnson may refer to: Academics and scientists

and Councilman Steve Sojka to a committee designed to steer the proposed course through the financing and development maze maze, detail of landscape gardening based on the Greek labyrinth, consisting of intricate paths or alleys lined with high hedges and having a center and exit difficult to find. ``I believe that this could really be a plus for the city,'' said Davis. ``From our standpoint, we could use the revenue for some important purposes.''

Parks officials said the course would offer an alternative between several new high profile private courses - including the Pete Dye-designed Lost Canyons Country Club - and existing city-run courses that include Simi Hills The Simi Hills are a low rocky mountain range in Southern California.  and the 9-hole Sinaloa Golf Course.

Johnson said that a private analysis has confirmed that the proposed course - already named the Sequioa Heights Golf Course - would produce ``positive cash flow'' for the district and quickly be able to pay back any bond debt service.
