CITY, COUNTY TO SUE GUN MANUFACTURERS.

Chicago and other cities have already filed such suits this year, a Molina spokesman said, adding that Los Angeles would be the first county to do so.

 said. ``We need to hold the gun industry accountable.''

Molina will ask her fellow supervisors when they meet at 9:30 a.m. today to authorize the lawsuit and to continue tracking the incidence and costs to the county of firearm-related crime. The costs would be the basis for determining damages requested in the lawsuit.

At the same time, Hahn and his counterpart in San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden , City Attorney Louise Renne, will announce their plans to file suits in state court. The two established a statewide anti-handgun task force in January.

Lawsuits by the cities of Chicago and New Orleans against the gun industry have not been resolved yet.

If supervisors approve Molina's proposal, the lawsuit could be filed as early as Wednesday, Santana said.
