The two council seats up for election are the ones held by Hearns and Ed Sileo. Sileo, who was elected to his first term in 2002, is seeking re-election and was the first person to take out nomination papers Monday. The filing period for the election was to end Jan. 13. However, when incumbents do not file to run for re-election, which will be the case with the moves by Roberts and Hearns, the filing period is extended five days.
