CITKO KILLS HIS DEAL OVER CASH.

Blackburn missed out on Polish World Cup star Marek Citko because their wage offer left them without a prayer.

Citko claimed he said "No" to the pounds 3m move as he wanted to stay at home and study to become a priest.

But the Widzew Lodz ace was really reeling from Blackburn's contract terms that worked out at only around pounds 3,000 a week.

That money is a fraction of what Blackburn players earn and Citko heard that he was being offered small terms in comparison.

Leeds like the look of young Hammers starlet Rio Ferdinand but there's no way West Ham would consider selling him ... QPR have let Costa Rican pair Paolo Wanchope and Mauricio Solis return home after a three- week trial ... Stoke's unhappy keeper Mark Prudhoe - on loan to York - is wanted by relegation fighters Grimsby ... Sheffield United mid- fielder Charlie Hartfield, 26, has joined Fulham on a month's loan with a view to a permanent move.
