CITIES MAY RECEIVE TRANSIT FUNDING.

GLENDALE - Glendale and Burbank would receive $4.1 million in federal money for six transportation projects as part of a funding bill scheduled to be heard Thursday by the House.

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on Monday authorized the funding, including $2.65 million for Glendale and $1.45 million for Burbank.

Glendale would receive $800,000 to construct cul Digispeak for "see you later."-de-sacs at Chevy Chase Drive and the railroad tracks, near the site of the Jan. 26 Metrolink crash that killed 11 and injured nearly 200 passengers.

Glendale also would receive $1 million to fund a downtown streetcar streetcar, small, self-propelled railroad car, similar to the type used in rapid-transit systems, that operates on tracks running through city streets and is used to carry passengers. Most often cars of this type are powered by electricity supplied through an underground third rail or an overhead wire. project; $462,000 to purchase natural-gas buses for its Beeline transit system; and $388,000 to rehabilitate Adams Street.

Burbank would receive $1 million to fund the design of a rail crossing- grade separation at Vanowen Street, just west of Clybourn and Empire avenues. The city would also receive $450,000 to buy compressed natural-gas buses to expand service throughout the city, including connecting two regional rail lines to downtown Los Angeles and to Bob Hope Airport.
