) has announced a new architecture for bringing high-end, computer-based visual applications to the consumer market. Such applications include video teleconferencing See videoconferencing. , 3D graphics, photo composition, electronic marketing, and next-generation games.

The new architecture, called VisualMedia(tm) acceleration technology, is a highly integrated, advanced, modular chip design that will support a variety of new memory technologies. This acceleration technology will be implemented in a new family of chips, the first of which is being announced today (see product release that follows).

"Cirrus Logic's new visual acceleration technology is intended to meet the demands of next-generation multimedia, interactive and 3D applications," said Douglas J. Bartek, President of Cirrus Logic's Visual and Systems Interface Company. "We're widely recognized as the volume shipment leader in the graphics and video accelerator A hardware component on a display adapter that speeds up full-motion video. The primary video accelerator functions are color space conversion, which converts YUV to RGB, hardware scaling, which is used to enlarge the image to full screen and double buffering which moves the frames into  market, and this new technology will allow us to extend the scope of our product offerings across the price-performance spectrum."

Cirrus Logic's new VisualMedia technology combines the company's proven expertise in graphics and digital video with revolutionary, very fast memory technologies. This new technology will spawn a family of products that will support multiple overlapping full-motion video Video transmission that changes the image 30 frames per second (30 fps). Motion pictures are run at 24 fps, which is the minimum frequency required to eliminate the perception of moving frames and make the images appear visually fluid to the eye.  windows at 30 frames per second, high-resolution 2D/3D graphics and MPEG (Moving Pictures Experts Group) An ISO/ITU standard for compressing digital video. Pronounced "em-peg," it is the universal standard for digital terrestrial, cable and satellite TV, DVDs and digital video recorders (DVRs).  decompression.
