CIRCUS CIRCUS ANNOUNCES A PRELIMINARY AGREEMENT TO DEVELOP A RIVERBOAT CASINO IN MISSISSIPPI

LAS VEGAS, May 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Circus Circus Enterprises Inc. announced today that it has preliminarily agreed to develop a riverboat casino site in Tunica County, Miss. The Circus site is adjacent to a site identified earlier in the week by ITT Sheraton as the location of a similar project. Circus will develop, own and operate one of three dockside casinos at the site. The third riverboat will be owned by Horseshoe. The casino megaplex will be less than 20 miles from Memphis in northern Tunica County, and will be one of the closest gaming operations to the 4 million residents of Memphis and the Mid-South metropolitan areas, which include Memphis, Nashville and Little Rock, Ark.
Circus Circus said that its casino complex will be of similar size to those of Horseshoe and ITT Sheraton. Subject to licensing, Circus' dock-side casino will be wholly owned and operated. The project will feature approximately 25,000 square feet of casino space, 1,000 slot machines and 25 tables. The company's casino facility will include restaurants, entertainment areas and retail shops. Details will be established during the design phase of the development.
Earlier this week, Circus announced a joint venture with the Eldorado Hotel/Casino, a privately held company, to develop and operate "Project C" in downtown Reno, Nev. The themed project will depict a 16th century Spanish seaport on the island of Atlantis. Included in the project will be approximately 2,000 rooms, 60,000 square feet of gaming, three levels of entertainment, five themed restaurants, and seven levels of parking, totaling 2,800 spaces.
Circus Circus Enterprises Inc. operates seven properties in Nevada: Excalibur Hotel/Casino; the Circus Circus Hotel/Casinos in Las Vegas and Reno; the Colorado Belle and Edgewater hotel-casinos in Laughlin, Nev.; and Slots-A-Fun and Silver City casinos in Las Vegas. The company's eighth property, Luxor Hotel/Casino, is scheduled to open on the Las Vegas strip in October of this year. Grand Slam Canyon, a theme park at Circus Circus-Las Vegas, will open in August of this year.
