CIRCUIT CITY STORES, INC. REPORTS SEPTEMBER SALES

RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Circuit City Stores, Inc. (NYSE: CC) today reported September sales of $299.3 million, which represents a 26 percent increase from September 1992 sales of $237.7 million and a 4 percent increase in comparable store sales.
"The ongoing success of our geographic expansion contributed to September's strong total sales growth," said Richard L. Sharp, Circuit City's president and chief executive officer. "The comparable store sales pace reflects continued weakness in the Southern California economy and difficult comparisons against last year's hurricane- stimulated sales in Southern Florida."
During September, Circuit City opened two additional Superstores in Boston, bringing its total in that market to 11. Three Superstores were added in Chicago, giving the company a total of seven stores in the metropolitan area.
Circuit City Stores, Inc. is the nation's largest specialty retailer of brand-name consumer electronics and major appliances. With headquarters in Richmond, it operates 233 Superstores, seven Circuit City stores and 38 Impulse stores in the eastern, midwestern and western United States.
