CIRCUIT CITY STORES, INC., REPORTS OCTOBER SALES

 RICHMOND, Va., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Circuit City Stores, Inc. (NYSE: CC), today reported October sales of $306.9 million, which represents a 29 percent increase from October 1992 sales of $238.8 million and a 6 percent increase in comparable store sales.
 "Our sales growth continues to reflect the success of Circuit City's geographic expansion program," said Richard L. Sharp, Circuit City's president and chief executive officer. "Our comparable store sales reflect more difficult comparisons against last year's results and an extremely competitive retail environment."
 During the month, Circuit City opened its 12th Superstore in the Boston area and added two stores in Chicago, bringing its total in that market to nine. In the Richmond market, the company opened a Superstore to replace another Superstore closing in November.
 Circuit City Stores, Inc., is the nation's largest specialty retailer of brand-name consumer electronics and major appliances. With headquarters in Richmond, it operates 237 Superstores, seven Circuit City stores and 38 smaller, mall-based stores in the eastern, midwestern and western United States.
