CINEMATOGRAPHERS ANNOUNCE CHOICES FOR BEST WORK.

The cinematographers for ``Elizabeth,'' ``Shakespeare in Love,'' ``Saving Private Ryan,'' ``The Horse Whisperer'' and ``The Thin Red Line'' were nominated nom·i·nate  
tr.v. nom·i·nat·ed, nom·i·nat·ing, nom·i·nates
1. To propose by name as a candidate, especially for election.

2. To designate or appoint to an office, responsibility, or honor.
 Wednesday for one of the top honors in their field.

The five will vie for top honors in the annual American Society of Cinematographers The American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) is an educational, cultural, and professional organization. It is not a labor union, and it is not a guild. Membership is by invitation and is extended only to directors of photography and special effects experts with  Outstanding Achievement Awards competition. The winner will be named Feb. 21 at the ASC's annual awards dinner.

``The Horse Whisperer's'' Robert Richardson Robert Richardson may refer to:
  • Robert Richardson (cinematographer) (born 1955), American cinematographer
  • Robert Richardson (religion) (1806–1876), American medical doctor and 19th century Christian religious leader
 scored his fifth nomination in the 13-year history of the ASC ASC Ambulatory surgery center, see there  awards.

It is the third nomination for both John Toll (``The Thin Red Line'') and Janusz Kaminsky (``Saving Private Ryan''), and the first for both Remi Adefarasin (``Elizabeth'') and Richard Greatrex (``Shakespeare in Love'').
