 CIGNA BOARD ELECTS SHOEMATE DIRECTOR AND WAGNER GENERAL COUNSEL
 PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- CIGNA Corporation (NYSE: CI) today announced that Charles R. Shoemate, chairman, president and chief executive officer of CPC International Inc., has been elected to CIGNA's board of directors and Thomas J. Wagner has been elected executive vice president and general counsel.
 The CIGNA board of directors also determined that five directors will be elected for three-year terms at the 1992 Annual Meeting, scheduled for April 22. Nominees will be announced in January.
 Shoemate, 51, has served as chairman, president and CEO of CPC International since 1990 and prior to that as president since 1988. A longtime employee of CPC, he has worked in manufacturing, finance and business management, and has run the company's corn refining business and its Canadian subsidiary, among other duties. CPC International ranks as one of the largest and most international food companies in the United States, and has operations in 47 countries.
 Shoemate is a graduate of Western Illinois University and holds an M.B.A. in marketing and finance from the University of Chicago.
 Wagner, 52, assumes his new responsibilities effective Jan. 1, 1992. He succeeds James W. Walker Jr., 64, who will retire on that date after serving the CIGNA companies for 14 years.
 Wagner has been associated with the CIGNA companies for 11 years in a number of senior legal positions. He most recently served as chief counsel-corporate law and senior vice president and corporate secretary of CIGNA Corporation. He will retain his responsibilities as corporate secretary.
 A graduate of Earlham College and the University of Chicago Law School, Wagner is a member of the Illinois Bar and the American Bar Association. He also serves as chairman and director of the Delaware Valley Citizens Crime Commission.
