Byline: Scott Magoloff Daily News Staff Writer

So, a new dog taught the old dog some new tricks. Crescenta Valley The Crescenta Valley is a small inland valley in Los Angeles County, California. Its name derives from its crescent-like shape, with the convex portion facing roughly northeast and the concave portion southwest.  High's Kenny Carpenter, who set a Southern Section Division II record last year, was upset in the 100-yard butterfly at Saturday's Division II championship meet.

``I underestimated (Cavic) and I deserved to get beat, especially because all my life I've been the one who's been underestimated,'' Carpenter said. ``It feels really exciting to come back and repeat (as a team). People always say to repeat is harder than just winning it once.''

Carpenter said his Falcons teammates were down after losing to Hart in a dual meet earlier in the season, but rode a wave of confidence since beating Arcadia for the league championship.

``We recovered, won a league championship and that really set us up (to cap off) these great two years,'' said Carpenter, who claimed the 200 freestyle championship in 1:40.10, beating teammate and second-place finisher Travis Taylor Travis Taylor may refer to: People

Ervin earned the distinction of boys' swimmer of the meet, as he racked up 68.85 points for Hart. Carpenter was runner-up.

In another upset, Alemany's Maureen Farrell was defeated by swimmer of the meet Shauna Barnard of Laguna Hills. She beat Farrell (56.39) by just under two-tenths of a second.
