CIF-SS NAMES COMMISSIONER.

The CIF Southern Section CIF Southern Section (commonly abbreviated as CIFSS) is the largest of the ten sections which comprise the California Interscholastic Federation. Its membership includes most public and private high schools in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Bernardino, Ventura, Santa Barbara,  executive committee named Huntington Beach High principal James Staunton as its commissioner of athletics.

Staunton replaces Dean Crowley, who is retiring. Staunton is the organization's eighth commissioner.

``I am delighted to be following in the footsteps of someone like Dean Crowley and to work for an organization like the CIF (1) (Common Intermediate Format) A standard video format used in videoconferencing. CIF formats are defined by their resolution, and standards both above and below the original resolution have been established. The original CIF is also known as Full CIF (FCIF). ,'' Staunton said. ``I am grateful to the organization for picking me.''

Staunton was chosen over four other finalists, including current assistant commissioners Karen Hellyer and Bill Clark. Staunton has been an educator for more than 25 years, the majority of that time in the Huntington Beach Unified School District A unified school district is a school district which includes both primary school (kindergarten through middle school or junior high) and high school (grades 9-12). In Illinois, these districts are called unit school districts. .

``The Southern Section executive committee, after an extensive search, is very confident we have identified a most competent and able leader in Dr. James Staunton,'' CIF-SS CIF-SS California Interscholastic Federation - Southern Section  council president Margie Godfrey said.
