track prelims, athletes entered in the early races were already running late.

``I pretty much had to just jump out there and start warming up,'' said distance star Shaluinn Fullove.

Fullove found the traffic much better on the track, where she took early leads and cruised to heat victories in the 1,600 and 800 meters.

Fullove and other heat winners and qualifiers will compete next Saturday in the Southern Section finals, also at Long Beach City College.

Other girls' heat winners Friday included Akira Kennett of Calabasas in the 100 hurdles, Tiffany Tiffany, Tiffanie (UK)

``This is kind of a laid-back meet,'' said Fullove, who certainly looked at ease in winning her races. ``I just wanted to qualify. Next week is the tough race.''

Fullove considers the longer race her best event.

``The emphasis this year has definitely been on the 1,600,'' said the senior, who is the reigning Mission League champ at 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters. ``But my 800 has been coming around, too.''

Fullove's time at the 1,600 meters Friday was 5:06.30. She thinks she can do better.

``I'm hoping to break five minutes,'' she said.

She's also like to do well enough Saturday and over the next few weeks to make the State meet June 1 at Cerritos College Cerritos College is a public comprehensive community college founded in 1955 located in Norwalk, California. ``That's when I'm supposed to graduate,'' Fullove said. ``But that's OK. I'd miss graduation for a chance to run at State.''
