CIF SWIMMING : L.A. BAPTIST'S PARMENTER PUTS ON ONE-WOMAN SHOW.Byline: Vincent Bonsignore Daily News Staff Writer L.A. Baptist High School does not have a swim team, but you'd never have guessed that on Friday night at the Southern Section Division I swimming finals in Long Beach. That's because Jennifer Parmenter, an L.A. Baptist freshman and one of the top high school swimmers in the nation, all but stole the show by shattering the Southern Section Division I record in the 200 individual medley and then beating Southern Section record-holder Nicole Beck in the 100 backstroke. Parmenter, who barely missed out on making the 1996 Olympic team, started the night by breaking out her brand new, one-of-a-kind L.A. Baptist swimming outfit. It was presented to her by her coach at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Club specifically for the Southern Section meet. She then proceeded to blow away the competition in the 200 IM. In the 100 backstroke she had to battle from behind to nip Beck on the last lap. All this, despite the fact that Parmenter tapered just a little bit in preparation for the finals. Her bigger concern is the upcoming U.S. nationals later this summer. In the 200 IM, she broke a 13-year-old Southern Section record with a time of 2:00.82. The previous best time was established by Mission Viejo's Karin Werth in 1983. Parmenter's mark is also the fastest time by a high school swimmer in the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. Shafer, who broke a school record in the 100 freestyle in the preliminaries on Thursday, wasn't able to improve on that time but came away feeling good about his overall performance. ``All in all I had a great two days,'' said Shafer, who didn't expect to do as well as he did. Since Parmenter's school has no swimming team, the 15-year-old Granada Hills resident was forced to compete in six meets this year with Louisville High School Louisville High School may refer to:
