Chiefly residential, Fountain Valley also has diverse manufactures, including apparel, computer equipment, semiconductors, and medical equipment. A U.S. navy helicopter facility is there.  - The positive to Sione Fua's disappointing fifth-place showing at the Southern Section's Coastal Division wrestling championships last weekend was how it sharpened his focus in training in the days that followed.

It was there for all to see at the section's Masters Meet at Fountain Valley High. Fua on Saturday bounced back from a quarterfinal defeat, winning four matches - including bouts with the top two Coastal finishers - to claim a berth at the State Championships next weekend in Bakersfield.

Fua finished third in the 275-pound division, edging two-time divisional champion Rommey Fuga from Edison of Huntington Beach Huntington Beach, city (1990 pop. 181,519), Orange co., S Calif., on the Pacific coast, across from Santa Catalina Island, in an oil-producing area; inc. 1909. The Antelope Valley
of Lancaster's Eric Timson finished fifth after reaching the semifinals at 140 pounds, and Royal's Kevin Dunn was sixth at 119. The top eight wrestlers in each weight class advanced to the State Championships.

``(Fifth) is better than sixth, seventh or eighth,'' said Timson, the first of the area wrestlers to qualify. ``My goal was to go to state, and now I'm halfway there. I've got to place (in the top eight). I can't stop here. I can't slack off, can't think it doesn't matter what I do from here.''

Timson beat Rosemead's Ian Millan 9-4 in the quarterfinals to clinch his spot, then fell to second-seeded Vinny Maraj of Yucca Valley, the Northern Division champion, in the semifinals and Barstow's Sam Barnhart in the third-place semifinals.

Dunn, the top seed in his class, lost a quarterfinal bout to Palm Springs' Nolan Ticman, then nailed down a state berth with a 9-6 decision over Laguna Hills' Brandon Roell in the consolation fourth round. He injury- defaulted the third-place semifinal to Canyon Springs of Moreno Valley's Joey Campanas after hitting his head hard on the mat, then decided to forfeit To lose to another person or to the state some privilege, right, or property due to the commission of an error, an offense, or a crime, a breach of contract, or a neglect of duty; to subject property to confiscation; or to become liable for the payment of a penalty, as the result of a  the fifth-place bout.

``I look at this as a qualifying tournament,'' Dunn said. ``It doesn't matter if I finish first or eighth here, as long as I make it to state.''

Calabasas' Cameron Teitelman (125) and Westlake's Arian Ghaffari (112), who went 2-0 Friday to move within one victory of state berths, lost their first two matches Saturday and were eliminated.

Teitelman opened a 5-0 lead on El Modena of Orange's Jared Cleberg in the decisive bout, then gave up five third-period points - four on a pair of two-point near-falls - and lost 7-6. Teitelman was inconsolable after the defeat. Camarillo's Steve Barnett Jerry Stephen Barnett (born June 4, 1941 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma) was an American football offensive lineman in the National Football League for the Chicago Bears and the Washington Redskins. He played college football for the University of Oregon.  (189) also came within one victory of advancing, winning three consolation bouts before falling 10-5 to Glendora's Fil imp. 1.

Fua's clinching victory came with a quick, second-period pin against Rosemead's Anthony Gonzalez Anthony Gonzalez (b. Gonzalez was born in Avon Lake, Ohio and graduated from Saint Ignatius High School. , who won a controversial decision in a semifinal meeting at the Coastal championships. The Stanford-bound football star then routed Magnolia of Anaheim's Davoriol Wright 7-1 and edged Fuga for third.

``(Fuga and I) have a Polynesian connection - I'm Tongan, and he's Samoan,'' Fua said. ``It was a big win for me to beat him, but we were both tired. I'd rather we have a good match at state, where we both can go full out. I look forward to wrestling him again.''
