CIENA Corporation CFO Joseph Chinnici Named to Brix Networks' Board of Directors.

Chinnici, senior vice president, finance and chief financial officer at CIENA Corporation (NASDAQ: CIEN), has been named to the growing service assurance company's Board of Directors.

In addition to Chinnici and Pincince, the Brix board also includes: Rubin Gruber, founder and chairman emeritus, Sonus Networks; Rob Ketterson, managing partner, Fidelity Ventures; Alan Taffel, former vice president of marketing, UUNET Technologies (now part of MCI); and Mike Zak, partner, Charles River Ventures.

Chinnici has served in his present role at CIENA since August 1997, and previously was vice president, finance and CFO. He joined the company in 1994 as controller.

Prior to CIENA, Chinnici was a financial consultant for Halston Borghese, Inc. Previously, he held a variety of accounting and finance positions during the course of a 16-year career with Playtex Apparel, Inc. (now a division of Sara Lee Corporation).

Chinnici holds a B.S. degree in accounting from Villanova University, and an M.B.A. from Southern Illinois University.

In addition to Brix Networks, he currently serves on the board of directors for Guilford Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
