CIC ENTERPRISES TELLS SPRINT'S COMPETITION: 'FORGET IT'

KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 28 /PRNewswire/ -- CIC Enterprises, a leading specialist in the administration of corporate tax credits, has extended and significantly expanded its 800 service contract with Sprint (NYSE: FON).
The new contract is conservatively estimated at close to $2 million over the next three years and "we didn't even put it out to bid," said Carl Cohen, president of Indianapolis-based CIC. "We always put our contracts out for bid.
"Actually, MCI and AT&T got pretty upset when I informed them we were very happy with Sprint," Cohen continued. "We've been with Sprint for our 800 service for more than four years, and Sprint gives us the best service, the best rate and the best person as our account 'rep.'"
The Federal Communications Commission has ruled that as of May 1, 800 service customers can shift their circuits to other long distance carriers without giving up the specific phone numbers they've advertised to the public.
The dawn of what the FCC calls "800 portability" is opening to competition for the first time a huge, $7.5 billion market in long distance.
"We're a pretty good size operation, so the other carriers were certainly in here trying to win us over with this 800 portability business," said Cohen. "But Sprint has been very reliable for us.
"Actually, Sprint has four things going for it," Cohen continued. "First, I know my account 'rep' well. Second, that rep, Bob Clark, has been really responsive. Third, Sprint has always been very aggressive with price reductions. And fourth, Sprint's service. We used to use AT&T. Sprint's service is consistently as good or better."
CIC Enterprises is a nationally recognized specialist in the administration and processing of tax credit programs for companies that are hiring certain categories of workers, including people who recently have been unemployed. CIC is able to assist its clients on a national basis by offering a "turnkey" approach to processing the credits, thanks to the use of Sprint 800 services.
CIC's 800 lines are crucial to its business and to its clients, because they are used for such things as the initial interviews that must be conducted before an employee's first day on the job.
"When 800 service is critical to your business, Sprint has a reliable network to serve you," said Kevin E. Brauer, president of Sprint's Business Market Group. "CIC is just one example of a customer who knows we're there whenever we're needed. Sprint appreciates the relationship we've built with CIC and looks forward to many more years of partnership."
"Like I said before: best service, best rate and best people," added Cohen.
Sprint is a diversified international telecommunications company with more than $10 billion in annual revenues and the United States' only nationwide all-digital, fiber-optic network.
Its divisions provide global long distance voice, data and video products and services, local telephone services to nearly 6 million subscriber lines in 19 states, and cellular operations that serve 42 metropolitan markets and more than 50 rural service areas.
