"For the fifth time in less than six months, the leadership of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU SEIU Service Employees International Union

"This irresponsible action by Local 250 has the potential of putting the public health at risk should some major catastrophe occur. It is clear that the Union's refrain of 'putting patients first' is a hollow one, and that this is part the Union's 'corporate campaign' of disruptions in the workplace, investigations, and other tactics intended to increase membership and membership dues. Local 250 is the largest healthcare union in California with over 60,000 members in Northern California Northern California, sometimes referred to as NorCal, is the northern portion of the U.S. state of California. The region contains the San Francisco Bay Area, the state capital, Sacramento; as well as the substantial natural beauty of the redwood forests, the northern  alone. The Union is alleged to have allocated over $30 million to organize Catholic Healthcare West Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) is a California not-for-profit public benefit corporation that operates hospitals in California, Arizona, and Nevada[1]. As such, it is exempt from federal and state income taxes.  (CHW) hospitals in Sacramento and Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, .

"In order to continue its corporate campaign against CHW, Local 250 has intentionally stalled negotiations for a new contract for employees represented by the Union at Saint Francis, St. Mary's and Seton. For the past five months, the Union has refused to meet us at the bargaining table to negotiate a wage increase and other benefits our employees richly deserve.

"Unwilling to wait any longer, and frustrated with Union leaders and their refusal to allow our employees to have a raise, our hospitals implemented wage increases on December 10 based on our 'best and final offer' to the Union in November. We believe our Union-represented employees should not be denied a long-overdue wage increase simply because the Union has a political agenda and refuses to negotiate.

"The more than 1,600 employees at our hospitals represented by Local 250 include all technical employees such as respiratory therapists, radiology technologists, lab assistants and licensed vocational nurses licensed vocational nurse

"Our first and foremost responsibility is to our patients. Thanks to the dedication of our management teams, physicians, professional registered nurses and support staff, we will be able to provide care to all who need it on December 14. Saint Francis, St. Mary's and Seton have developed strike plans and the focus will be on inpatients and those who present themselves with emergencies and urgent needs. Our emergency rooms will remain open."
