CHURCHS CHICKEN LAUNCHES 'DAY OF DREAMS' FUNDRAISING PROGRAM FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

ATLANTA, Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- As part of a nationwide fundraising campaign, Churchs Chicken today announced a "Day of Dreams" in which all profits made from bone-in chicken purchases on Wednesday, Oct. 20, will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer-based organization that provides decent and affordable housing in a coalition with low-income families.
In June, America's Favorite Chicken Company (AFC), the Atlanta-based parent company of Churchs, announced a $7 million commitment to build 200 Habitat homes throughout the world.
On "Day of Dreams" more than 900 Churchs restaurants across the nation will begin raising the $3.5 million needed to build 100 of those Habitat for Humanity homes. Churchs has committed to raise funds and provide volunteer labor to build Habitat homes in inner-city areas and neighborhoods where its restaurants operate.
To maximize the amount of proceeds raised, money receptacles will also be on display on "Day of Dreams" for customers who may want to contribute more to Habitat.
Churchs employees helped build the first AFC/Habitat home in Atlanta, and recently completed a home-building project in San Antonio.
"In addition to providing corporate and employee volunteers at each building site, our 'Day of Dreams' fundraiser allows all of our restaurants, franchisees, employees and customers to play a key role in the Habitat process," said Hala Moddelmog, vice president of marketing for Churchs.
The nationwide campaign also will encourage Habitat volunteers and community and business leaders to play an active part in the fundraiser. The money raised in each of Churchs markets will go to building homes in those markets allowing customers to see their donations at work in their own neighborhoods.
Along with its parent company AFC, Churchs will continue its association with Habitat for Humanity over the next five years in a not- for-profit partnership called "Churchs Dream Builders."
AFC already has been recognized by President Bill Clinton and former President Jimmy Carter for its commitment to build 200 Habitat homes throughout the world.
"AFC chose Habitat for Humanity as its corporate cause-related program because both are international organizations that are committed to strengthening the communities where we live," said Frank Belatti, chairman and chief executive officer of AFC.
Habitat for Humanity is a Christian organization dedicated to providing housing with low-income families and making decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. HFH was founded in 1976 in Americus, Ga., and has affiliates in all 50 states and 35 developing countries around the world.
AFC is the parent company of Churchs Chicken and Popeyes Famous Fried Chicken & Biscuits, the world's second- and third-largest chicken chains.
Churchs Chicken is a 1,075-unit quick-service chicken chain specializing in Southern-style chicken. Currently, the chain has 608 company-owned and 467 franchised restaurants. Churchs has restaurants in 30 states, 27 in Taiwan, and also has restaurants in Mexico, Puerto Rico and Indonesia. Churchs 1992 system sales exceeded $510 million.
