Church on Sunday cooked up a special feast to honor the women of their congregation for Mother's Day. ``No woman wants to cook on Mother's Day,'' said Phyllis Russell, a longtime long·time adj. Forsaking the traditional breakfast in bed or restaurant brunch, a group of men donned black bow ties to play chef and waiter for the congregation. For a change, the sons and dads did the work as moms enjoyed the day off. ``It was a nice surprise,'' said Alicia Tyson of Agoura. ``They hinted there might be a brunch, but seeing as the guys were serving it, we thought it would probably be (fast-food) takeout Takeout A financing to refinance or take out another loan. or something.'' On Saturday, the men shopped for about $200 in groceries and set up tables and chairs in the shady parking lot outside the church. On Sunday, the men arrived early to begin cooking while the rest of the congregation sat through services inside. ``It was the most difficult sermon I've ever preached because the smell of bacon and eggs started wafting in and distracting dis·tract tr.v. dis·tract·ed, dis·tract·ing, dis·tracts 1. Clack dismissed the 10 a.m. service a few minutes early and the congregation filed outside to see the men in white shirts and black bow ties standing behind tables piled with bacon, eggs, pancakes, melon melon, fruit of Cucumis melo, a plant of the family Curcurbitaceae (gourd family) native to Asia and now cultivated extensively in warm regions. There are many varieties, differing in taste, color, and skin texture—e.g. and strawberries. About 100 members of the congregation loaded up their plates in the buffet lines and sat down at long tables covered with white tablecloths in the shade. Church members gave flowers to the mothers. The bow-tied waiters and even the pastor shoveled out servings and poured orange juice and champagne. ``I'm from New England New England, name applied to the region comprising six states of the NE United States—Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. As the last trays of pancakes and bacon emptied out, organizer Steve Sporich glanced at his wife and worried about what he had started. ``She wants to have it every Sunday,'' he said. ``I don't think that will work. Once a year is pretty good.'' Added his wife, Debbie Sporich, ``We're already worried about Father's Day. Now we have to outdo this.''
