``He was very adamant that he wanted to have some contact with the schools,'' said Bruce Bruce, Scottish royal family descended from an 11th-century Norman duke, Robert de Brus. He aided William I in his conquest of England (1066) and was given lands in England.  Pelkey, director of College of the Canyons' International Students Program. ``He was very interested in seeing College of the Canyons in particular.''

Pelkey, who travels the world in an effort to recruit students to the college, met Coorilos on a recent four-day trip to Navi Mumbai. During a brief conversation with the man, Pelkey invited him to Santa Clarita.

Coorilos, due to arrive in the city at noon, will be greeted by a group of College of the Canyons staff members who plan to wear saris that Pelkey brought back as souvenirs. Saris are the traditional dress worn by Indian women.

Following a small luncheon, Coorilos will tour the city, visit a local high school campus and tour the college, where he will speak to an advanced political science class, Comparative Government and Politics.

``He's really a well-rounded guy,'' Pelkey said. ``He's very articulate articulate /ar·tic·u·late/ (ahr-tik´u-lat)

Through the visit, Pelkey is hoping to initiate a relationship that will draw students from his private K-12 school to College of the Canyons.

``We told him how anxious we were to see students transfer here after finishing their school,'' Pelkey said.

When Pelkey was in India, he visited Coorilos' school, the top academic institution in Navi Mumbai.

``He's someone who everyone respects,'' Pelkey said. ``They deferred to his judgment.''

Pelkey envisions students from around the world - particularly from Santa Clarita sister cities - studying at the college.

``Down the road it is a hope that we can get a trickle of international students coming to College of the Canyons from our sister cities, and spread the kind of good will we want,'' Pelkey said.
