About a dozen neighbors have asked the commission to reject the church's application, saying the new building will lower their property values, clog the streets with traffic, create parking problems and spoil spoil

However, city officials praised the Village Church for working with project opponents to reach a compromise and twice scaling back the project.

``We think it will be a good fit in Placerita Canyon,'' said Assistant Planner Wendy Deats.

The commissioners said then that the proposed building was not compatible with the rural nature of Placerita Canyon.

The Village Church's proposed building will house the church's religious education classes and youth projects.

Originally designed to be two stories and 11,500 square feet, the size of the building was reduced by more than half and to one story after three meetings with opponents.

The new building was not expected to increase traffic in the area nor create parking hassles for neighbors, Deats said.

``We wanted to be as right with the neighbors as possible,'' said Candy candy: see confectionery.
