BIGGER babies grow up to be brighter children, scientists said yesterday.

They found that IQ at the age of seven was directly related to birthweight, even when this was within the normal range.

New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of
 studied more than 3,000 children, most of whom had a birthweight of 6lbs 7oz.

The link with intelligence was stronger for boys than girls. A 2.7lb increase in birth weight related to a 4.6 point increase in IQ among boys and a 2.8 point increase among girls.

In boys IQ was associated with differences in birthweight between sibling pairs

This list includes certain twins which are also covered in List of twins, provided said twins have at least one additional older or younger sibling.
 - showing the effect was not related to family social environment.

The link remained even after factors such as mother's age, race, education and socio- socio-
pref.
