CHRYSLER TOPS HALF-MILLION MINIVAN SALES

HIGHLAND PARK, Mich., Sept. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- With a week to go in the current model year, Chrysler Corporation (NYSE: C) today topped 500,000 minivan sales in the U.S. market for the first time ever, establishing a new model year record, the company announced. Chrysler will surpass the previous record of 443,790 units, set in the 1992 model year, by more than 70,000 units, or 16 percent.
Having just recorded their best August sales ever, Chrysler minivans have also set monthly volume records in 16 of the last 18 months, compared year to year.
The small wagon market segment, which includes minivans, will easily surpass 1 million units for the first time this model year -- representing nearly 20 percent of the truck industry, up from 12 percent just six years ago. Chrysler has been the industry leader since first introducing the minivan in 1983, and continues to hold nearly 50 percent of the segment.
