CHRONICLING A PEOPLE'S PAST; FILMMAKER TRACKS ARMENIAN HISTORY.

To celebrate a film odyssey that spans five decades, clips from seven of J. Michael Hagopian's films will be screened Sunday at the Scherr Forum Theatre in the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza The Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza is a performing arts and administrative center located in Thousand Oaks, California. It was built in 1994 on the former site of "Jungleland" at a cost of $63.8 million. .

The event, Adventures through Armenian History, is sponsored by the Thousand Oaks Thousand Oaks, residential city (1990 pop. 104,352), Ventura co., S Calif., in a farm area; inc. 1964. ``I made this film two years after I moved to Thousand Oaks and it's the first documentary I made on the Armenian subject,'' Hagopian said.

Hagopian has made documentaries on India, the Himalayas, Africa and other subjects, but it's the Armenian experience that's closest to his heart.

``The budget for `The Forgotten Genocide' was $75,000. If I made the same film today, it would cost $300,000,'' said Hagopian.

The documentary was nominated for two Emmy awards and clips have been included on American, British and Australian television programs about the Armenian culture.

The film is narrated by Armenian-American TV actor Mike Connors Mike Connors (born August 15, 1925) is an American actor of Armenian descent.

He is best known for playing Joe Mannix in the long-running detective television series, Mannix. Before that, he had played a crime-fighting investigator, wielding a .
, best known for his role as ``Mannix,'' who is also the honorary chairman for the event.

``I've been collecting material for this film for 20 years,'' said Hagopian. ``I've conducted 350 interviews in 13 different countries in 13 different languages.''
