``We want to make a memory that people will enjoy for many years to come,'' he said.

Nine judges from the Burbank Civic Pride Committee will visit all 30 of the entries tonight, then choose the most beautiful and creative displays in the categories of business, residential and youth. Winners of the 18th annual contest will be recognized at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

``It's fantastic to see how much community pride there is in Burbank,'' said Ellie Myer, chairwoman of the Burbank Civic Pride Committee. ``The contest is a lot of work, but we have a good time.''

Pape's display was born 13 years ago, when he helped his son put together the beginnings of the amusement park. He adds something new every year, but insists it's not in an effort to win the decorating contest.

``We enter every year not really expecting to win. We just want to have our address in the paper so people will drive by and see the house,'' said Pape, 53. ``That's our reward.''
