CHRISTIANS GATHER FOR GOSPEL SOUNDS.

Byline: Kevin F. Sherry Daily News Staff Writer

The hills were alive with gospel music in Simi Valley Simi Valley (sē`mē, sĭm`ē), city (1990 pop. 100,217), Ventura co., SW Calif. in an oil, fruit, and farm region; laid out 1887, inc. 1969.  on Sunday.

Last week it was a bowling alley.

A group of Christians from various denominations has been gathering and listening to religious music at unusual locations.

Five musical acts from as far away as Huntington Beach Huntington Beach, city (1990 pop. 181,519), Orange co., S Calif., on the Pacific coast, across from Santa Catalina Island, in an oil-producing area; inc. 1909. The event was the second in a series of religious musical events coordinated by Sharon Brown Sharon Brown is Miss USA 1961.

After winning the Miss Louisiana USA crown, Brown, from Minden, Louisiana went on to become Louisiana's second representative to achieve the title of Miss USA. She also won the Miss Photogenic award.
. Last week, Brown began a religious-themed bowling night at Brunswick Valley Brunswick Valley, New South Wales, Australia is located just north of Byron Bay. It is a valley consisting of the towns Ocean Shores, Mullumbimby, Billinudgel and Brunswick Heads.  Bowl in Simi Valley.

Brown knew she wanted to showcase music, but ``I just needed to find the location,'' she said.

``It was just a whole different world than I imagined it to be,'' she said. ``We went into his office that very night.''

As for Dakota's, Brown said she was inspired by God to hold a religious music event at the restaurant on the hill.

``It was honestly a vision,'' she said. ``I had never been here before, ever.''

Both venues decided to give the religious music a try.

``They were a little bit skeptical,'' Brown said. ``It's something new, definitely to Ventura County.''

Christians can leave their respective denominations behind in their churches and come together as a single community, said Rafe Burns, a Pacoima resident who attended the event with his wife, sister and niece.

``What she's trying to do is get Christians to do more than go to church,'' Burns said.

Shirley and Don Matthews of Simi Valley sat under the shade of a tree as music filled the air.

``We came here directly from church,'' Shirley Matthews said.

Her husband, Don Matthews said, ``It's really encouraging that a lot of different churches get together.''
