CHP SANTAS PUT OUT CALL FOR HELP; TOY DRIVE BENEFITS NEEDY KIDS.

 kicked off its ninth annual toy drive Tuesday by appealing to residents and businesses to help gather and distribute toys for disadvantaged children during the holidays.

The CHIPs for Kids traffic safety campaign is an effort to bring joy to hospitalized and disabled children and to remind motorists about driving safely and responsibly, said Officer Ernie Garcia. More than 18,000 unwrapped toys were collected and distributed during last year's drive.

``We can use volunteers,'' Sweeney said. ``It's for a very worthy cause.''

The drive ends Dec. 24, and businesses should call Sweeney at (805) 257-6030 for information about becoming a drop-off site. Several local businesses already are participating.

Teaming with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, Magic Mountain will offer free admission to anyone bringing a toy valued at $10 or more Saturday and Sunday, and Dec. 13-14. Knott's Berry Farm Knott's Berry Farm is a brand name of two separate entities: a theme park in Buena Park, California, and a manufacturer of food specialty products (primarily jams and preserves) based in Placentia, California.  also is offering free admission for toy donations, officials said.
