It lies to the east of the city of Los Angeles, to the north of the Puente Hills, to the south of the San Gabriel Mountains, and to the west of the Inland Empire. . Officials hope it will shave precious seconds off the time needed to reach a police dispatcher Software that determines what pending tasks should be done next and assigns the available resources to accomplish it. ``When you dial now, you'll have someone pick up and say, What is your emergency? instead of, Hi, thanks for calling the police - please hold,'' said CHP Sgt. Ernie Sanchez.

The system eventually could add between 25 and 50 cents to customers' monthly bills, according to one of the companies participating in the pilot study.

Under state law, the CHP handles all 911 calls from cell phones. But those calls coming from areas not covered not covered Health care adjective Referring to a procedure, test or other health service to which a policy holder or insurance beneficiary is not entitled under the terms of the policy or payment system–eg, Medicare. The new system immediately locates the cell-phone transmitter handling each emergency call.

``In an area as dense as the San Gabriel Valley, where there are a lot of cell sites, you can get a pretty good idea of where someone is,'' said Melissa May, spokeswoman for AirTouch Cellular, one of nine phone companies participating in the test.

The system also gives officers the number of the cell phone from which the call is placed, said Steve Crosby, a spokesman at L.A. Cellular Telephone Co.

If the caller is forced to hang up or accidentally disconnects, police can now immediately call that number back.
