CHORALE TO SING MOZART.

VALENCIA - The Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Master Chorale chorale (kōrăl`, –räl`), any of the traditional hymns of the German Protestant Church. The form was developed after the Reformation to replace the plainsong of the earlier service and as a means of congregational participation in  will present ``Just Mozart,'' an afternoon devoted to one of the greatest composers of all time.

The chorale will commemorate the 250th anniversary of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's birth with a performance of the composer's Mass in C Minor, known as his ``Great Mass'' or ``Grand Requiem.''

The concert will be presented at 3:30 p.m. March 26 at the Performing Arts Center A performing arts center, often abbreviated PAC, is a multi-use performance space that can be adapted for use by various types of the performing arts, including dance, music and theatre.  at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. Before the concert, Allan Robert Petker, the chorale's artistic director, will speak at 2:30 p.m.

``Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was extraordinary in a lot of ways,'' Petker said. ``It is accepted universally that Mozart was a musical genius, but he had several little-known components of his personality and character that most people find utterly fascinating.''

Professional soloists Desiree Hassler, Caroline McKenzie, Jonathan Mack and Michael Gallup will join professional instrumentalists for this performance of the Grand Requiem.

Hassler was a charter member of the chorale until last spring, when she joined the Lyric Opera of Chicago Lyric Opera of Chicago is one of the leading opera companies in the United States. It was founded in Chicago in 1954. Production history

McKenzie was one of several stars in last fall's benefit concert, ``Friends of the Santa Clarita Master Chorale.''

. He has been a featured soloist on six major recordings and is in high demand as a studio singer, having sung in more than 100 productions for film, radio and television, including the 2004 Grammy Awards.

Bass-baritone Gallup, appearing in Santa Clarita for the first time, has been a regular guest of several opera companies throughout the United States and has performed in operas at the Hollywood Bowl under the direction of Michael Tilson-Thomas, Sir Charles Groves and Leonard Slatkin. He has been praised as much for his acting ability as for his wide vocal range, from high falsetto falsetto (fôlsĕt`tō) [Ital.,=diminutive of false], high-pitched, unnatural tones above the normal register of the male voice, produced, according to some theories, by the vibration of only the edges of the larynx.  to deep basso.
