CHORALE TO KICK OFF HOLIDAY SEASON IN STYLE.Byline: Daily News VALENCIA - The Santa Clarita Master Chorale will open its 2005-06 season Dec. 4 with a holiday concert, ``Caroling, Caroling!,'' at the College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. The 55-voice chorale, directed by Allan Robert Petker, will perform Christmas carols at the 4:30 p.m. event. Accompanied by a professional chamber orchestra and piano, the singers will perform David Willcocks' arrangements of ``God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,'' ``O Come All Ye Faithful,'' ``Unto Us Is Born a Son,'' ``The First Noel'' and ``Hark! The Herald Angels Sing Hark! the Herald Angels Sing traditional Christmas carol. [Western Culture: “Hark! the Herald Angels Sing” in Rockwell, 132–133] See : Christmas .'' Arrangements of ``Joy to the World,'' ``Infant Holy, Infant Lowly'' and ``Masters in This Hall,'' published just this year by Mack Wilberg and accompanied by strings, will be highlighted. Also featured will be familiar Alfred Burt carols arranged by local composer Jan Sanborn: ``Caroling, Caroling,'' ``Some Children See Him,'' ``O Hearken hear·ken also har·ken v. hear·kened, hear·ken·ing, hear·kens v.intr. To listen attentively; give heed. v.tr. Archaic To listen to; hear. Ye,'' and ``Star Carol.'' Paul Sjolund's arrangement of ``Silent Night,'' an audience favorite, will be on this year's program. Two Hanukkah pieces by Samuel Adler and Michael Isaacson will be presented, as will a little tongue-in-cheek frivolity that will have the audience smiling, or possibly laughing out loud. The chorale will perform selections from ``A PDQ (Parallel Data Query) A query optimized for massively parallel processors (MPPs). In addition to the ``fun'' pieces, concertgoers will be treated to a majestic orchestral prelude composed by Petker, now in his third season as the chorale's artistic director. Also featured will be a Petker choral composition, ``Canticle can·ti·cle n. 1. A song or chant, especially a nonmetrical hymn with words taken from a biblical text other than from the Book of Psalms. 2. Canticles Bible The Song of Songs. of St. Augustine,'' an advent work with chamber orchestra. ``Caroling, Caroling!'' features additional gems, such as works by Poulenc and Victoria, a piece by California composer Eric Whitacre, and Schalk's ``Before the Marvel of the Night.''
