 CHOICE HOTELS TO SPONSOR SENIOR TEAM IN THREE-TOUR CHALLENGE;
 FLICK OFFERS GOLF TIPS TO SENIORS PLUS A COMMERCIAL
 WASHINGTON, Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The largest hotel franchise chain in the world, Choice Hotels, which franchises Comfort, Quality, Clarion, Sleep, Rodeway, Econo Lodge and Friendship Inns, has agreed to sponsor a senior PGA team in the inaugural Wendy's Three-Tour Challenge.
 The new tournament pits one professional golf team from each tour against each other. U.S. Senior Open Champion Larry Laoretti, Jack Nicklaus and Chi Chi Rodriguez will make up the senior contingent, competing against Fred Couples, Raymond Floyd and Tom Kite from the PGA Tour, and Nancy Lopez, Dottie Mochrie and Patty Sheehan from the LPGA.
 The tournament offers a $300,000 purse to the winning team, $200,000 to second place and $100,000 to third place. Choice Hotels will provide up to $100,000 in charitable contributions with the charity being determined by the winning team. The tournament will be played at the New Albany Country Club outside Columbus, Ohio, on Sept. 1. It will be delayed broadcast by ABC Sports on Dec. 26 and 27.
 This tournament will be the first of 13 to air Choice Hotels' new "winning never gets old" series of golf vignettes aimed at the 50- plus golfer. Twelve 1-minute vignettes have been filmed starring world famous golf instructor Jim Flick. In each segment, Flick works with a member of the senior tour to illustrate a golf tip that compensates for age.
 Flick will also be Choice's newest celebrity to pop out of their trademark suitcase promoting Choice's 30 percent discount offered to persons 50 and older on a space available basis.(A)
 Both the new vignettes and the new commercial will air during ABC's golf tournament broadcasts including the Infiniti, the Chrysler Cup, Legends, Byron Nelson, Mazda Senior, U.S. Open, U.S. Senior Open, British Open, Women's Open, Champions, and British Senior, among others, in 1993. Choice Hotels International will also air similar bowling vignettes on numerous ABC televised bowling tournaments in 1993.
 "Seniors get a great deal at our hotels, and they've been staying with us in record numbers. We want them to know that they're valuable guests," said Barry Smith, senior vice president of marketing for Choice Hotels. "Our message is simple: advancing age simply does not have to be a deterrent to an individual's ability to compete, be it golf or any other activity in life. By making an adjustment or two, people can continue to compete and win year after year."
 Choice Hotels International is the parent company of Comfort, Quality, Econo Lodge, Clarion, Rodeway, Friendship and Sleep Inns made up of 2,833 inns, suites and resorts open and under development in 29 countries. Reservations at any Choice hotel can be made by calling 800-4-CHOICE.
 (A) Rooms are limited and must be booked through the toll-free reservation number. A 10 percent discount is guaranteed for any available room for any traveler aged 50 or older.
