Galaxy (7-4-3) update: Winless in 15 games away from Home Depot Center, dating to June 27, 2004, the Galaxy seeks to salvage a four-game trek that began with two 1-0 losses (at Colorado and Dallas) and a 1-1 tie (Wednesday against Real Salt Lake). Leading scorer Landon Donovan plays his first game at Spartan since leaving the Earthquakes last fall. Defender Tyrone Marshall returns from suspension but will receive another suspension if he picks up a yellow card.

Earthquakes (4-3-6) update: Third-place San Jose hasn't lost at home this season (2-0-4). U.S. national team forward Brian Ching, out since May with a knee injury, scored a goal last weekend for the Earthquakes' reserves. Midfielder Kelly Gray, acquired from Chicago, scored in his debut last week for his hometown team. The Quakes are mourning former club president Peter Bridgwater, who died Tuesday after a 12-year battle with cancer.
