in semiconductor prices and the Asian currency crisis, Diodes Inc. said Friday that it expects to post ``significantly lower'' second-quarter earnings than it did in 1997.

It's too early to say precisely how far this quarter's results will fall, said spokesman Philip Bourdillon. ``We chose to say `significantly' - that's as precise as we can go at this point with three weeks left in the quarter,'' he said.

The company expects to release the second-quarter results during the week of July 27.

Those results will reflect a downward trend the company also saw in its first quarter, when per-share earnings fell by 3 cents from fourth-quarter 1997 results to 22 cents ($1.2 million).

Second quarter 1997 net income had been $1.2 million, or 23 cents per diluted di·lute

``Because these adverse market conditions are still with us and have in fact been more severe in the first two months of the second quarter, we expect second-quarter earnings to be significantly lower than earnings in the first quarter,'' company President Michael Rosenberg Michael Rosenberg (born May, 1954 in New York) is one of the top Bridge players in the United States. The company's stock closed Friday at 7-1/8, down 3/4.
