CHINA TO HELP BUILD CONFERENCE CENTER.


China has agreed, based on a request from the Government, to provide assistance for the construction of a multi-million dollar international conference center in Guyana, reports The Guyana Chronicle The Guyana Chronicle is a daily newspaper owned by the Guyanese government. It will be located in the vicinity of the new Caribbean Community (CARICOM CARICOM: see Caribbean Community and Common Market. ) Secretariat Headquarters at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara Demerara (dĕmərâr`ə), river, c.200 mi (320 km) long, rising in the Guiana Highlands, E Guyana, and flowing N to the Atlantic Ocean. Georgetown, Guyana's chief port, is at the river's mouth. . Minister of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation, Clement Rohee Clement Rohee (born 1950) is a Guyanese politician. He has been a high-ranking government minister since the People's Progressive Party gained power in 1992. He served as foreign minister from 1992 to 2001 and as Minister of Foreign Trade and International Co-operation from 2001  and Chinese Ambassador Song Tao signed the agreement, paving the way for construction of the center. This first phase, valued at 600,000 Renminbi Yuan (US$70,000), will facilitate the dispatching of a team of nine Chinese consultants to Guyana to carry out a preliminary survey. Over the years, China has provided aid and technical cooperation with in a number of areas. These include the Mocha Mocha (mō`kə), town (1990 est. pop. 2,000), S Yemen, a port on the Red Sea. It was noted for the export of the coffee to which it gave its name but declined as a trading port in the late 19th cent. with the rise of Hodeida and Aden.  Mocha Hydro Power Station; investment projects, including the Sanata Textile Mill, the Clay Brick Factory, a Bicycle Assembly Plant and a Vegetable Farm; interest free loans; technical cooperation and training.
