CHINA EASTERN PURCHASES SIXTH MD-11 TRIJET

PARIS, June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- McDonnell Douglas has announced the sale of a sixth MD-11 to China Eastern Airlines.
China Eastern, which is based in Shanghai, China, currently operates five of the long-range wide-bodied MD-11s, four in all- passenger configuration and one freighter version.
The newest MD-11 is an all-passenger model and will be delivered to the airline in December. It will help supplement China Eastern's MD-11 service in Asia and to such areas as Europe, the Middle East and the United States.
The airline's MD-11s currently serve a number of cities from Shanghai including Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Madrid, Spain, Brussels, Germany, Bahrain, Hong Kong, Osaka, Japan, and Beijing.
China Eastern plans to operate its newest trijet with 340 seats in a two-class arrangement. The MD-11 features a highly flexible cabin design that allows easy moving of seats, cabin divider walls, galleys and lavatories to change the layout in response to changes in an airline's passenger demand.
China Eastern MD-11s are equipped with three Pratt & Whitney PW 4460 series engines, each developing 60,000 pounds of takeoff thrust.
The airline has experienced outstanding dispatch reliability with its fleet of MD-11s, exceeding 99 percent. The figure is an airline measure of departure delays because of mechanical causes. The high percentage indicates excellent performance by the aircraft and the operator's maintenance and flight crews.
The MD-11 was chosen as the premier aircraft for China Eastern's long-range fleet because it is the newest, most advanced aircraft available, with advantages of high technology, economic efficiency, passenger comfort and high reliability.
With its MD-11F freighter aircraft, China Eastern provides all- cargo service to markets in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
