CHILLY DECEMBER ACROSS NATION, BUT IT'S... PERFECT BEACH WEATHER IN L.A. THOUSANDS REVEL IN RAYS ON SUNNY DAYS.Byline: Alex Dobuzinskis Staff Writer MALIBU - As an arctic freeze covered the east and bitter winds and snow swept through the Midwest, Southern Californians were reveling in perfect beach weather Sunday - just in time for Christmas. ``I love the weather. It doesn't even feel like Christmas is coming "Christmas Is Coming" is a nursery rhyme and Christmas carol (frequently sung as a round) with lyrics as follows:
Coon and his friend Joe Naughton, 29, of Eugene, Ore., took their kayaks about a half-mile from Puerco Beach, where they planned to fish. ``We go to the beach in December in Oregon too. But the water is 40 degrees. ... Yeah, this is pretty amazing a·maze v. a·mazed, a·maz·ing, a·maz·es v.tr. 1. To affect with great wonder; astonish. See Synonyms at surprise. 2. Obsolete To bewilder; perplex. v.intr. ,'' Naughton said. With temperatures reaching as high as 74 degrees on Sunday in Malibu, Coon was one of thousands of Southern Californians spending a balmy day at the beach. And the warm weather is here to stay for a while. Through Christmas weekend, temperatures are expected to reach the 60s and 70s each day, with overnight lows in the 40s, said meteorologist David Gomberg of the National Weather Service. There may be some low clouds and patchy fog in the mornings, but it will otherwise be a true Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region, Christmas. It was a perfect weekend for Zaruhi Hagobyan, 14, of Glendale, who was at Puerco Beach on Sunday with relatives, including three visiting from Armenia. The Hagobyans wanted to introduce their guests, who came from a place with snow on the ground, to December at a Southern California beach. Zaruhi's uncle took the opportunity to swim in the Pacific, but Zaruhi and her immediate family did not follow him in because they had no bathing suits. ``Because we didn't know it was going to be this hot. We just came to see the ocean,'' Zaruhi said. At Zuma County Beach, an ocean lifeguard specialist, Scott Bernhoff, said there were about 10,000 people Sunday along the three miles of public beach from Trancas Canyon Road to Point Dume Point Dume is a point on the coast of Malibu, California. Point Dume forms the northern end of the Santa Monica Bay, and Point Dume Headlands Park affords a vista of stretching to the Palos Verdes Peninsula and Santa Catalina Island. State Preserve. The water in the Malibu area was 57 degrees, Bernhoff said. A few people swam and boogie-boarded Sunday afternoon at Zuma County Beach. But the water was not warm enough for Sargon Khodabakhsh of London, England, to consider swimming. ``We leave that for the professionals,'' said Khodabakhsh, who was at the beach with his brother and two sisters. He is staying in Northridge with his sister Angel during his visit. Vincent O'Teri, 11, of Sylmar put his feet into the water but later retreated to a beach blanket near the Malibu Pier. Vincent's mom, Angela Clifford, 35, said being at the beach was a good break from Christmas shopping. ``We went to have lunch in Santa Monica Santa Monica (săn`tə mŏn`ĭkə), city (1990 pop. 86,905), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1886. Ed Smith, 87, who fishes at the pier on Sundays and Wednesdays and is waiting for the lakes to be stocked so he can do his fishing in freshwater, has a philosophical attitude about the weather - warm or cold. Smith and his son Bryce got to the pier at 6:30 a.m. ``It's cold every day - every morning until the sun comes out,'' said Smith, who lives in Reseda.
