Even the triple-digit heat Saturday could not stop scores of local youngsters from catching a free game of baseball between the Dodgers and New York Mets

More than 450 special needs children were invited by an organization of federal employees to root for the home team at the third annual Federal Employee Appreciation Day.

Even though the home team lost 4-3 to the Mets, the children were treated to a good time. On Saturday, children who participated came from Friends of the Family in Van Nuys, the Southern Sierra Boy Scout Council and the Santa Clarita Boys & Girls Club, among other groups.

One young member of the Santa Clarita group, Alex Kontogiannis, 15, of Saugus, said Saturday's game was one he wouldn't miss.
