CHILDREN GET HUGGABLE, SOFT VERSION OF FAMED
 'PRECIOUS MOMENTS' CHARACTERS
ORANGE, N.J., July 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The rule "look but don't touch" no longer applies to creator Samuel Butcher's "Precious Moments(TM)." Now there is a soft "playable" version of the recognizable tear-drop-eyed characters collected by thousands worldwide.
Designed especially for children, the recently introduced "My First Precious Moments Newborn" soft-bodied doll is the first in a series of Precious Moments doll and plush products from Rose Art Industries, Inc.
Rose Art, the licensed manufacturer, has worked closely with Precious Moments, Inc. to develop the "loveable, huggable and affordable little doll" for children. Measuring six inches in length and weighing half-a-pound, the doll, which retails for $9.97, has removable clothing, "combable" hair, bendable limbs and comes in its own environmentally friendly reusable nursery setting.
"The doll is just adorable. She's perfect for precious little hands," said Florida nurse and grandmother Jan Kropenick, one of thousands of Precious Moments collectors throughout America. "The Rose Art doll is good for grown-up little girls too."
In addition to purchasing the doll for their children and grandchildren, collectors are adding the four introductory Rose Art dolls -- three girls and a boy -- to their own Precious Moments collections.
As a result, Rose Art is having difficulty keeping up with the demand. "The demand for this doll is incredible, even greater than we anticipated," said company President Lawrence Rosen. "People are passionate about Precious Moments...I believe this is the beginning of a very successful doll line."
No sooner did Kmart advertise Rose Art's new Precious Moments doll than customers began buying up supplies of the limited quantity doll.
"I think the dolls are just darling...I went to three or four Kmart stores to find them in stock," said Sheryl Williams, editor of "Precious Insights," a newsletter for Precious Moments collectors.
A privately owned toy and stationery company, Rose Art expects to take a share of the $2.2 billion doll industry with its new Precious Moments doll line. The line represents the 70-year-old company's first venture into the doll market and Precious Moments' broadest distribution to date.
