CHILDREN'S CENTER INVITES COMMUNITY TO READ TO PUPILS.Byline: Joanne Crawford Education LANCASTER - Lancaster United Methodist Children's Center has invited community members to read books to preschool and kindergarten kindergarten [Ger.,=garden of children], system of preschool education. Friedrich Froebel designed (1837) the kindergarten to provide an educational situation less formal than that of the elementary school but one in which children's creative play instincts would be pupils from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday. To participate in the ``Safari Read-a-Round'' event, volunteers can call kindergarten teacher Jo Marie Brandon or director Pennie Leighton at (661) 942-0812. The center has a wide array of books on hand from which people can choose to read to the youngsters, Brandon said, or participants can read books of their own choice if they get them approved in advance. Children need not be Methodist to enroll. The school is also planning a fashion show fund-raiser May 6 called ``Apple of My Eye,'' in which the youngsters will be the models.
