CHILDREN'S portions; Food&Drink.


EATING out can be a tricky situation with little ones in tow, so as children enjoy the half term holiday Food and Drink takes a look on what's on offer in some of the region's day trip destinations.

WHERE is it? Tate Cafe, Tate Liverpool, Albert Dock

What's on offer for children?

Four dishes on the children's menu consisting of homemade fish cake, chips and salad; vegetables in tomato sauce with penne; meatballs in tomato sauce with penne; chicken goujons, chips and salad.

Price: pounds 4 per dish including an apple or orange fruit drink

Is it good value? Meals were a good portion size and very filling.

Surroundings: Lovely, large, light and airy room with great views of the dock. A few high chairs were available and staff seemed very child friendly.

Food and Drink recommends: Goats cheese ciabatta ciabatta

Where is it? Restaurant, Fifth floor, World Museum Liverpool World Museum Liverpool is a large museum in Liverpool, England which has extensive collections covering archaeology, ethnology and the natural and physical sciences. Special attractions include the Natural History Centre and a free Planetarium.  

What's on offer for children:

Chicken nuggets/fish tiddlers or mini sausages with chips and beans or chips and vegetables (usually peas or carrots). Drink of water or fruit juice included.

Lunch bag: consists of cheese, tuna or ham sandwich, on a choice of brown or white bread; a piece of fruit and small cake (with no additives).

Is it good value? Moderate. Portions are a good size.

Surroundings: It's got the feel of a large, spartan, staff canteen. It's serviceable but it would be nice to continue the museum theme with the decor in some way.

Food and Drink recommends: Homemade chicken korma - a real treat.

Overall: Children will be tempted by the chicken nuggets and chips rather than healthy options. 3/5

Where is it? Cafe, Wildflower wildflower

Any flowering plant that grows without intentional human aid. Wildflowers are the source of all cultivated garden varieties of flowers. A wildflower growing where it is unwanted is considered a weed.
 Centre, Court Hey Park Court Hey Park is a park in Knowsley and is home to the National Wildflower Centre.

Court Hey Park can be traced all the way back to 1783 when it was a farmer's field forming part of the Lord Derby Estate.

What's on offer for children? Packed lunch in a box offering a choice of sandwiches including cheese, egg mayonnaise, ham and tuna; fruit juice and raisins.

Half portions of fresh, homemade soups, baked potatoes, or sandwiches made to order.

Price: pounds 2.95 for the lunch box, others pounds 3.50

Is it good value? Excellent

Surroundings: A lovely, clean, bright and airy cafe which is a pleasure to eat at.

Food and Drink recommends: The homemade cakes, priced pounds 1.25 upwards, are delicious.

Overall: Not a chicken nugget or chip in sight. Worth making a trip for the cafe alone. 5/5

Where is it? Cafe, Fourth floor, Merseyside Maritime Museum The Merseyside Maritime Museum is a museum based in the city of Liverpool, Merseyside, England.

The city’s seafaring heritage is brought to life within the historic Albert Dock.

Is it good value? Average.

Surroundings: Excellent. Lovely big room with views of the dock.

Food and Drink recommends: The delicious and reasonably priced adult menu.

Overall: Other than the usual nuggets and fish tiddlers there is not a decent choice of alternative hot meals other than jacket potatoes for children. 2/5
