CHILD DIES OF INJURIES; MOM ARRESTED.

A 2-year-old boy died at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  on Wednesday after suffering severe physical abuse by his 19-year-old mother, police said.

, but the nature of the injuries raised concerns with the medical staff,'' said Officer Asta Webster.

The boy was later transferred to Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, where he was placed on life support, Shirey said.

``The child had both old and new, unexplained external injuries and was suffering from internal hemorrhaging,'' Shirey said.

Shirey added that on Sept. 16, the child was taken to an area hospital suffering from a broken leg.

Merlos told investigators the wound was caused in an accident, and doctors determined that the wound was consistent with her story. An accident report was completed.
